For
one week in April, ten Israeli teens from the town of Sderot joined with
teens from JRF communities in the New York region for the incredible New
York / Israel Teen Mifgash (meeting). The Israeli teens toured the
city, saw a Broadway show, and went to the top of the Empire State Building;
and with their American peers they walked around the Lower East Side and
visited the Museum of Jewish Heritage. More importantly, the Israelis and
Americans had meaningful interactions and in-depth conversations about life
in Israel and America, what it means to be Jewish in each country, and how
we can live our daily lives as conscious and committed Jews. Supported
by a generous grant from the Israel Experience Center of the UJA-Federation
of New York, this event would not have possible without the commitment of
the staff and communities of the SAJ, West End Synagogue, and the
Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore.
