No'ar Hadash PROGRAM IDEAS

March 2004: "WHAT'S IN YOUR BAG?"
A Mixer from Meh Hadash B'No'ar Hadash

This program takes approximately half-an-hour and can be done with any age group.

Supplies: paper bags, index cards, party favors, candy

1. Participants will line up around the room alphabetically according to their first name.

2. Participants will line up around the room in order of birthday (month and day, not year).

3. Each participant will be given a brown paper bag.  In the bag will be a number of items which well help them meet other people in the room.

• First, they will find a piece of paper with one half of a pair written on it.  For example, they may have “peanut butter.”  The participants will then move around the room to find the other half of the pair (for example, “jelly”).  Once the two participants find each other, they should introduce themselves and share two great things that happened in the past week.

• Next, the pairs will look in their bags for a small toy or party favor.  They will then move around the room to find another pair with the same toy.  The group of four will introduce themselves and discuss their favorite Jewish experience.

• Finally, each group of four will look in their bags to find a piece of candy.  They will then find the other group of four that has the same kind of candy.  This group of eight will find a space in the room to sit down, introduce themselves, and discuss what they most enjoy about being Reconstructionist.
